Upcoming Conferences:

If you are interested in attending any conferences, please send an email to Nora Ayala at by the deadline.  Submit name, personal email address (not district/work email) and conference preference.  Any emails sent to school email or after the deadline will not be considered.  If more than 4 members are interested, there will be a lottery.  

  • Fall Leadership – The San Diego and Imperial Service Center Councils are privileged to again host the annual Fall Leadership Conference in Palm Springs, CA.  The 2016 conference is packed with new tools designed to assist you in representing your members by providing clear, current, and comprehensive information.

  • Issues Conference – This conference provides an opportunity for educators from rural, urban, and ESP local areas, throughout the state, to learn, share, strategize and unite together to determines the future of public education.  As members with diverse interests and multiple perspectives, don’t miss this opportunity to reconnect with fellow educators, reenergize your skill set and help strategize solutions to confront the challenges we are facing together.  

              January 26 – 28, 2018

  • Equity & Human Rights Conference – The 2016 Equity and Human Rights Conference captures the essence in CTA’s Mission Statement:  to ensure that the dignity and civil rights of all children and youth are protected, and to secure a more equitable and democratic society.  The conference combined speakers and workshops to provide all CTA members with a greater understanding of the issues of diversity and equity.  

              March 2 – 4, 2018

              Location: Marriott, Torrance

              Deadline to apply: Jan. 1, 2018 by 4:00 p.m.

  • Good Teaching Conference South **Priority will be given to teachers in the first 5 years of teaching** – The CTA Good Teaching Conferences are designed to support excellent teaching and learning practices for classroom teachers.  Offering a variety of diverse workshops in curriculum content areas for K-12 teachers, the conferences provide opportunities for professional development and offer time to network and share ideas with colleagues and experts in the field. 

  • *Building a Bridge between Assessment, Standards & Instruction (9:00am to 4:00pm).

     *The Educator’s Guide to Saving and Investing for Retirement (10:00am to 4:00pm.                      

    *The Teacher Innovation Expo (sponsored by the Institute for Teaching) (8:30am-4:30pm). 

             March  16 – 18, 2018

             Location: Hyatt Regency Orange County, Garden Grove

             Deadline to apply: Jan. 1, 2018 @ 4:00 p.m.

  • Summer Institute – The premiere workshop of its kind, the Summer Institute offers sessions in areas that assist chapter leaders in the day-to-day representation and support of members.  Sessions include Communications, Instruction and Professional Development, Emerging Leaders, Essential Bargaining, Advanced Bargaining, School Finance, Community Engagement, Charter Educators, Tax Fairness, Legal and Member Benefits. 

               July 30 – August 3, 2017

              Location: UCLA Conference Center, Los Angeles

              Deadline to apply: Wednesday, June 28 @ noon. 


If selected, you’ll be notified via your personal email.  SWTA will register and pay for the conference upfront.  You will need to write a brief article/reflection about your experience to receive reimbursement for travel, food and part of your hotel expenses within 30 days of attending the conference.  The article you write could appear in the SWTA newsletter.  Please send the article and pictures to Nora Ayala at Nestor. Please have a caption/brief explanation to go with your picture(s).
